Millions of people suffer with low back pain every day. You don’t have to just live with the pain though. There are wonderful exercises that your physical therapist can teach you in order to help you grow stronger and no longer feel that kind of pain.
Tennis Elbow
When you perform a lot of repeated arm or wrist motions, you are at risk of tennis elbow. Tennis elbow is a condition that is an inflammation of or irritation of the tissue connecting the forearm and upper arm. The tendons in the forearm suffer strains and tears due to over use and leave you feeling pain and soreness.
Prone ‘Y’ on a Bench
This exercise works to strengthen the muscle groups around the shoulder, especially the trapezius muscle (that runs along the back and back of the shoulder) which is commonly weak and can lead to Tennis Elbow. Yes that’s right, a weakness in the shoulder can lead to pain in the elbow! You will need a small weight and a bench to perform this exercise. It is not at all necessary to use a large weight for this exercise, just a small one to five pound weight will do.
To perform the exercise correctly begin by lying chest down on the bench.
- Allow your arms to hang down, with your palms facing inwards towards each other.
- Lift your arms up until they become parallel to the floor (make sure to pay attention to the tempo and raise and lower your arms in a slow and controlled fashion).
Physical therapy can provide significant relief through exercises like the prone ‘Y’ on a bench and many others that your physical therapist can teach you. They can also provide you with other great therapies, such as the use of lasers to help you conquer your pain.
